Mary J. Eddy
August 27, 1957 ~ January 17, 2024
Mary J. Eddy, of Danvers, passed away peacefully at home on January 17, 2024, at the age of 66. A cherished wife, mother, grandmother, nurse, and friend, Mary's enduring spirit and unwavering kindness touched the lives of all who knew her. She was the beloved wife of Karl N. Eddy.
Born on August 27, 1957, in Salem, Mary was the daughter of the late Robert and Una O'Donnell. She grew up in Salem, where she attended St. James School and graduated from Bishop Fenwick High School in 1975. Mary's pursuit of knowledge led her to North Shore Community College where she earned a degree in nursing, a profession that became her lifelong passion. She went on to receive a bachelor’s degree from Lesley University.
Mary dedicated her career to helping others, working diligently as a nurse at Lynn Hospital, J.B. Thomas Hospital, and Salem Hospital. Her compassion and commitment to care led her to become a certified case manager at Union Hospital, where she made a significant impact on the lives of many.
Beyond her professional life, Mary was a beacon of community spirit. She devoted her time to serving Saturday luncheon at LifeBridge and played a vital role in the Ukrainian Medical Drive in Boston. Her selflessness and dedication to volunteer work were a testament to her generous nature.
A longtime resident of Danvers for 40 years, Mary was a devout parishioner of St. Richard’s Church. Her faith and community were pillars in her life.
Mary's enthusiasm for life extended to her love of sports. A committed Boston sports fan, she was a proud Patriot season ticket holder and relished attending Red Sox games. Her passion for sports was paralleled by her love for the outdoors; she was an avid walker, often seen walking around Danvers, covering three to four miles a day.
Family was the cornerstone of Mary's life. She reveled in watching her daughters grow, supporting them in soccer matches and dance recitals. In recent years, her greatest joy was spending time with her grandchildren, creating countless cherished memories at Endicott Park.
In addition to her husband, she leaves two daughters and sons-in-law, Shannon and George Gomatos of Georgetown and Kaitlyn and Daniel Roaf of Salisbury, a stepson, Mark Eddy of Springvale, ME, four grandchildren, Dimitri, Anthony, Alexandra, and Madison, and a brother and sister-in-law, Eugene and Patricia O’Donnell of Plymouth.
