Mary H. (Dawson) Shannon, 90, died Sunday morning, April 4, 2010, following a lengthy illness. She was the wife of the late Joseph J. Shannon, with whom she shared over 30 years of marriage. Born in Boston on Sept. 23, 1919, she was the daughter of the late Thomas and Mabel (McDermott) Dawson, she was raised and educated in Revere and was a graduate of Revere High School. Mrs. Shannon was a longtime Danvers resident and resided in Winthrop for several years before returning to Danvers. She was employed at the General Electric RiverWorks Plant in Lynn, where she and her husband were both employed for over 40 years. She was a communicant of St. Mary of the Annunciation Church. She is survived by eight nieces and nephews, Kathleen Neal, Maureen Harris, Virginia Horgan, John Dolan, Thomas Dolan, Stephen Graf, Kevin Graf, and Thomas Dawson and their families. She was predeceased by her brothers and sisters, Virginia Dolan, Theresa Graf, and Thomas Dawson, and a nephew, Robert Graf. Her Funeral Mass will be celebrated Tuesday, Apr. 6, 2010 at 11AM in St. Mary of the Annunciation Church 24 Conant St., Danvers. Burial will follow at 1PM in Holyhood Cemetery, Brookline. Relatives and friends are invited. Visitation will precede the funeral Mass from 9:30-10:45 in C.R. Lyons & Sons, Funeral Directors, 28 Elm St., Danvers Square. In lieu of flowers, donations in Mrs. Shannon’s memory may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association, 311 Arsenal St., Watertown, MA 02472

  1. Mary, may you rest in peace. I am a distant cousin thru your grandmother Mary McNamara-Dawson. I am the great granddaughter of Mary McNamara-Dawson’s brother John McNamara. I believe they were twins…both 19yrs old when they arrived in America. I knew about your family but did not know where you were. I am so sorry I found you too late but you will be in my prayers God Bless Theresa Nearen-Almonacid
