Michel Compagnon

Michel A. Compagnon, age 86, passed away peacefully at Brooksby Village in Peabody, MA, on June 12, 2015. Born in Nancy, France, Michel came to the United States in 1941. He initially lived in New York City and was granted admission to the Lycée Francais de New York from which he graduated in 1947. Michel obtained an undergraduate degree in engineering from NYU in 1951 and a Master’s Degree in mechanical engineering from the University of Pennsylvania in 1952. Michel began his career as an aerospace engineer in 1951 at Westinghouse Corporation. In 1955, Michel became a senior design engineer at Lycoming Division of AVCO. In 1955, Michel moved on to work in the Aerospace Division of the General Electric Co. in Lynn, MA where he worked until his retirement in 1988. Michel was an avid golfer and skier. He enjoyed traveling to all parts of the globe. He loved playing bridge and greatly enjoyed listening to classical music. And of course he loved his pipes, wine and cheese. Michel leaves behind his daughter Nina Compagnon Hirshfield, his sons Alan Compagnon and Marc Compagnon, his grandchildren Colette, Richard, Joshua, Tyra, Juliet and Michele, great-grandchildren Julianne, Emmalyn and Wyatt, sister-in-law Colette Sluys, nephew Jean-Pierre Sluys and his son Felix. Michel’s wife of 61 years, Françoise L. Compagnon predeceased him in 2013. Funeral Services are private.
