Mildred V. McCarthy, 101, died Friday morning, Sept. 9, 2011 at home, following a lengthy illness. She was the wife of the late Edward B. McCarthy. Born in Baltimore, she was the daughter of the late Harry and Marie (Mahoney) Turner. She was raised and educated in Maryland until moving to Scituate, where she lived for over 60 years. She had been a Northshore resident for the last 30 years. Mrs. McCarthy was a homemaker who enjoyed spending time with her family and making ceramics. She was an avid Red Sox fan. She is survived by her children, Edward B. McCarthy, Jr. of Grass Valley, Calif., Helen Ann Litchfield and her husband Thad of Danvers, Marie T. Dunphy and her husband Vinnie of Beverly; eight grandchildren and 18 grandchildren. She was predeceased by her siblings, Helen Nance, and Samuel and Benjamin Turner. Her funeral Mass will be celebrated on Monday, Sept. 12, 2011 at 11 a.m. in St. Mary of the Annunciation Church, 24 Conant St., Danvers. Burial will follow at 1:30 p.m. in St. Mary Cemetery, Scituate. Relatives and friends are invited. Visitation will precede the funeral from 9:45 to 10:45 a.m. in C.R. Lyons & Sons, Funeral Directors, 28 Elm St., Danvers Square. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to North Shore Elder Services, 152 Sylvan St., Danvers, MA 01923.
