Born in: Gloucester, Massachusetts
Resided in: Mission Viejo, California

Nancy Elizabeth Wetmore, of Mission Viejo, California, passed away peacefully on March 29, 2026, in Danvers, Massachusetts, following a brief illness. She was born in Gloucester, Massachusetts on March 20, 1941, and graduated from Gloucester High School and Beverly Hospital School of Nursing.

Nancy led an extraordinary life, full of career accomplishments and personal adventures. She was a nurse for 60 years practicing in many settings, including CHOC Hospital in Orange County, California as well as Hoag Hospital in Newport Beach. She published early research on ECMO technology and traveled the country as a nurse educator. She made many friends throughout her career.

Nancy traveled extensively. She visited Thailand, Russia, Brazil, Japan, much of Western Europe, and more. Her favorite place was Hawaii and she visited often.

Nancy adored her friends and neighbors and always sought out activities to meet new people throughout her life. She skied in her 20s, traveled with friends throughout her 30s and beyond, took up golf in her 60s, hula dancing in her 70s, and volunteer work with the Daughters of the American Revolution in her 80s. She will be dearly missed by her hula sisters.

Nancy was predeceased by her parents, Clair and Hazel Wetmore of Gloucester, Massachusetts.

Nancy is survived by her brothers, Robert Wetmore and Donald Wetmore, and his wife Nancy, of Stratford, Connecticut, and her beloved nieces, Rebecca (Wetmore) Moroney and her husband, James of Danvers, Massachusetts, and Jennifer (Wetmore) Bresnick and her husband, Daniel of Shelton, Connecticut. She cherished spending time with her grandnieces, Jillian Moroney, Natalie and Avery Bresnick, and her grandnephew, Garrett Moroney.

Nancy also leaves behind cherished family, including her niece, Pamela Cellemme and her husband Andrew, and nephews Christopher Wetmore and his wife Kerry, Jonathan Wetmore and his wife Amanda, as well as 10 grandnieces and grandnephews, all of Connecticut.

Nancy always had a toy poodle and/or a talking parrot by her side. In one of the clearest examples of her sense of humor, she taught one of her parrots to say, “I can talk. Can you fly?” She is predeceased by her beloved companions, Muffin, Mandy, Kelly and Clancy. She leaves behind Wendy.

Her funeral service will be private. In lieu of flowers donations may be made in Nancy’s name to Daughters of the American Revolution at https://www.dar.org/support-dar/giving-opportunities/donate-online. Online condolences are available at www.LyonsFuneral.com
