Born in: Boston, Massachusetts
Resided in: Danvers, Massachusetts

Paul R. Danehy, Sr., 78, of Danvers, died Wednesday, May 13, 2026, while in hospice care in Florida, following a period of declining health. He was the beloved husband of Anne Macartney, with whom he shared 20 years of marriage.

Born in Boston on August 30, 1947, he was the son of the late John and Bridie (Fahy) Danehy. Paul was raised and educated in Brighton and was a graduate of St. Columbkille High School.

Paul began his career in the floral industry as a young man in Brighton, and then in 1974 purchased Curran’s Flowers on Park Street in Danvers. Over the next five decades, through his innovation, creativity, and dedication to both his craft and his customers, he built the flower shop and greenhouses into one of the most recognized and respected floral businesses on the North Shore and throughout Eastern Massachusetts.

Although he was not active in the day-to-day operations in recent years, Paul still made it a point to visit the shop daily alongside his faithful canine companion, Monty. Whether offering a smile, a kind word, or a bit of wisdom, he remained a beloved and steady presence to his dedicated staff, who had become like family over the years, and to the many loyal customers he had befriended.

A longtime Danvers resident, Paul served on the Board of Advisors of the former Essex Bank and was a longtime member of the Danvers Kiwanis Club and the Danvers Touchdown Club. He was also a member of the North Shore Florist Association and the Massachusetts Flower Growers Association.

Paul loved the ocean and spent many days on the water exploring the Massachusetts coastline by boat and enjoyed scuba diving in the Caribbean. An avid golfer, Paul was a member of the Tedesco Country Club in Marblehead, where he was on the Board of Governors, and a member of Plantation Golf and Country Club in Venice, FL. He loved playing a friendly round with his dear friends as much as he enjoyed playing in matches in the Northern Twi League, of which he was a captain for many years. He greatly enjoyed time spent at his second home in Osprey, Florida, and especially treasured the many adventures shared on Anguilla, where he and Anne had a home.

In addition to his loving wife, Anne, he leaves his cherished Havanese, Monty; his son, Paul R. Danehy, Jr., and his partner, Kyle Donovan, of Danvers; his cherished grandchildren, Brett Donovan and his fiancée, Baylee, Riley Donovan, Zander Donovan, and Paul Danehy III; his sisters, Anne Sweetnam and Sheila O’Hara and her husband, Jim; his sisters-in-law, Ita Danehy and Phyllis Danehy; his brother-in-law, Glenn Merrill; as well as many nieces, nephews, and his beloved Curran’s Flowers work family.

He was predeceased by his brothers, John and Francis Danehy; his sister and brother-in-law, Mary and Jim McKay; his sister, Susan Merrill; and his brother-in-law, Paul Sweetnam.
