Peter A. Skarmeas

Peter A. Skarmeas, 82, died Monday evening, October 6, 2014, following a sudden illness. He was the beloved husband of Mary E. (Theodore) Skarmeas.
Born in Winthrop on November 4, 1931, he was the son of the late Arthur and Georgianna Skarmeas. He was raised and educated in Woburn, and was a graduate of Woburn High School. He served honorably in the U.S. Air Force during the Korean War and he went on to graduate from Northeastern University and attend Suffolk University Law School.
A Danvers resident since 1968, Mr. Skarmeas was employed by the United States District Court for the District of Massachusetts for over thirty-two years, rising to Chief Deputy Clerk and then Acting Clerk of Courts. Mr. Skarmeas was also a member of AHEPA (the American Hellenic Educational Progressive Association) for over 30 years. He was a devoted fan of Boston’s sports teams, a voracious reader of history and an astute follower of politics. He also enjoyed bowling with friends each week for 42 years at Sunnyside in Danvers. Mr. Skarmeas is remembered by all who knew him as a loving and dedicated husband, a generous and kind father, a devoted grandfather of seven, and a loyal friend.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by his children, Arthur Skarmeas and his wife Lyn of Danvers, Paul Skarmeas and his wife Kelley Lederer of North Grafton, Nancy Skarmeas and her husband Paul MacDonald of Hopkinton, NH, and Kathy Kristoff and her husband Rob of Peabody; his sister, Sandy (Skarmeas) Boujoukos and her husband Arthur of Bedford, NH; and his grandchildren, Alexandra, John, Peter, and Nicholas Skarmeas, Gordon and Fiona MacDonald, and Lucy Kristoff. He was predeceased by two sisters, Florence Rhodes and Katherine Skarmeas.
His Funeral Service will be Saturday, October 11, 2014, at 1:30PM in Saint Vasilios Greek Orthodox Church, 5 Paleologos St., Peabody. Burial will follow in Wadsworth Cemetery, Danvers. Relatives and friends are invited. Visiting hours are Friday from 5-8PM at C.R. Lyons & Sons, Funeral Directors, 28 Elm St., Danvers Square.
