Peter J. Martin, 85, of Peabody, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, July 1, 2026. He was the beloved husband of Anne E. (Flaherty) Martin, with whom he shared 62 years of marriage.
Born in Medway on August 19, 1940, Peter was the son of the late Ralph and Anne Martin. He was raised and educated in Medway and graduated from Medway High School. He earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Civil Engineering from Worcester Polytechnic Institute in 1962 and later an MBA degree from Boston College.
Peter and Anne were longtime residents of Needham before moving to Norfolk and finally to Brooksby Village in Peabody. For more than 55 years, he enjoyed spending summers with his family in Eastham.
Peter enjoyed a distinguished 40-year career as a civil engineer. He worked at Stone & Webster, J.F. White, and Barletta Engineering before retiring in 2005.
In addition to his wife, Peter is survived by his five children: the Reverend William J. Martin of Fletcher, North Carolina; Anne Svensen (Erik) of Medway; Tracey Foley (Mike) of North Reading; Peter G. Martin (Judy) of Wakefield; and Paul G. Aquino Martin (Amando) of Long Beach, California. He is also survived by eight grandchildren: Sarah Svensen, Erin Messina (Joseph), Kate Svensen, Lucia Valentine (Vincent), Laura Imbriano (Corey), Lilia Martin, Katerina Foley, Michael Foley and four great-grandchildren: Ford and Francesca Imbriano, and Capri and Joseph Messina. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his dear cousin, Mary East.
Visiting hours will be held on Wednesday, July 8, 2026, from 4 to 7 p.m. at C.R. Lyons & Sons Funeral Home in Danvers. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Thursday, July 9, 2026, at 10 a.m. at St. Richard’s Church in Danvers. Burial will be private.

Peter truly was the nicest man i have ever met. We have been neighbors with them in Eastham since i was a baby. His relationship with Anne is truly beautiful and they hold a high standard for what true love is. I will always remember seeing them at Herring Pond together and always having a big smile on his face. Sending my love

So sorry to hear of Pete’s passing. We are thinking of you all during this trying time. He will be missed by all who knew him.
It was my pleasure to have worked with Peter at Utility Contractors’ Assn. of N.E. where he served on our Board of Directors for many years, and later moved up the ladder and eventually served as President of this prestigious Trade Association.
Whenever I turned to him for his knowledge and construction expertise, he was only a phone call away. I can honestly say that he was one of the most respected members of our Association, in addition to being a dear friend of mine.
