Peter N. Soucy
November 26, 1956 ~ October 5, 2023
DANVERS- Peter N. Soucy, 66, passed away on October 5, 2023 following a courageous battle with cancer. He was the loving fiancé of Kristen Albano of Danvers.
Born in Salem on November 26, 1956, he was the son of the late Norman and Patricia (Piotrowski) Soucy. Pete was proudly raised and educated in Danvers and graduated from Danvers High School in 1974. He went on to receive an associate degree in culinary arts at Essex Agricultural Institute in Danvers. He then earned a bachelor’s degree in Hotel, Restaurant and Travel Administration at UMass/Amherst.
Pete worked in many North Shore restaurants before starting a successful career with the Chart House – taking him to San Diego, Philadelphia and Annapolis. Pete had a passion for the outdoors which brought him to Seattle in 1998. He spent ten years working in food services at the University of Washington and Bastyr University, where he was known as the “King of Compost”. In 2009, he made his way to California, where he worked for Sodexo at the Academy of Art University, McAfee and The Diablo Canyon Nuclear Power Plant. Finally, in 2017, he moved back to his beloved town of Danvers to help care for his Mom and to be with his fiancé, Kristen, and their precious dog, Molly. He spent two years managing food services at Tufts University before becoming the General Manager at St. John’s Preparatory School through Sage Dining. He loved working with his team and was honored to be part of The Prep community. The one constant in Pete’s career was his extraordinary work ethic and his commitment to his colleagues – always making him an indispensable leader and friend.
Pete was passionate about reading, sports and the outdoors. He climbed a great many mountains including Kilimanjaro, Rainier, Whitney, Washington and Monadnock; hiked all over the country, including the Grand Canyon and Yosemite; and travelled to Alaska, Europe, and Africa. In each place he visited or worked, he instantly made friends and became part of the local community. Pete loved running in every form – including road, trail and adventure running. He competed in countless races everywhere he went and inspired others to join him. Pete loved playing hockey, especially on The Meadow, reading non-fiction, studying American history, watching Boston sports, golfing, cooking, gardening, and being with his friends and his Soucy and Albano families.
In addition to his fiancé Kristen, he is survived by his siblings, Bob Soucy and his husband Bob Allen of Salem, Kathryn Soucy and her husband Bruce Davis of Seattle and Cindy Gross and her husband Jeff of Newburyport, his nephew, Ben Gross and his wife Sophie, his niece, AnnaKathryn Gross, his nephew, Nathan Davis, his aunt, Claire Gauthier of Salem and his cousins, Frank Soucy and his wife, Diane and Debbie Burgy, and his beloved dog, Molly.

I have had the pleasure of working for Pete Soucy at St. Johns for the past year and I can say that he is the best Manager I have ever worked for. The very first thing he did every morning was to go around and greet each one of his team members stopping to smile and say Good Morning and to see if we needed anything. He worked shoulder to shoulder with us and did anything to help us create a seamless service experience for the students and faculty. If a team member called out, he was that team member for the day. He knew everyone’s strengths and never micromanaged. Pete, you will surely be missed. Thank you for being such a wonderful Boss, Colleague and Friend.
We were fortunate to get to know Pete during his years in Seattle, when he was living next door to Kath and Bruce and Nate. How lucky they were to have a brother/uncle next door! And how lucky we were to be included in lots of Soucy/Davis fun. We shared many meals and some hiking, and of course a lot of laughs! (Almost as if we was our brother /uncle too.). Pete was one-of-a-kind, with a generous spirit and his signature smile that lit up his whole face. It breaks my heart that he’s gone; we were lucky to spend time with him along the way. What a beautiful dedication to Pete! His immense love of family and spirit for adventure come through in every picture! Praying these fondest of memories guide all who knew and loved Pete through this time. XO. Beth and Dan Corey
I am so sorry that today I just learned of Pete’s death. We both worked at Bastyr University and Pete was a delight in every sense of the word. He was optimistic, willing to roll up his sleeves to make something happen, a willing listener (and told his fair share of stories, too!).
His energy seemed boundless and enjoyed the freedom to pioneer environmental changes at Bastyr, which won recognition in his time. He was way ahead of the curve.
It is so sad that he died so young. I am sure he is missed by everyone and anyone whoever came into contact with him. He was a great soul and we are all impacted by his absence.
May his memory be a blessing!
All my best,
Sandy Voit (former Dean of Students at Bastyr)
