Philip A. Walfield, Sr., 83, of Danvers, died Saturday, October 15, 2011 following a lengthy illness. He was the loving husband of Emily L. (Gray) Walfield, with whom he shared 61 years of marriage. Born in Danvers on Sept. 27, 1928, he was the son of the late George and Doris (Giles) Walfield. He was raised and educated in Danvers and was a lifelong Danvers resident. Phil was employed as the supervisor of maintenance at the former Hunt Memorial Hospital until its closing. He had previously been employed as a mechanic at the former Standard Crayon. A member of Holy Trinity United Methodist Church, he enjoyed hunting, fishing, and boating. The Walfield family extends its heartfelt gratitude to the staff of Rosewood Nursing & Rehab. Center for the wonderful care Phil received during his illness. In addition to his wife, he is survived by three daughters, Barbara Bernstein and her husband Robert of Moultonborough, NH, Cynthia Serratore of Danvers, and Irene Broughton and her husband Bill of Salisbury, four sons, G. Mark Walfield and his partner Brian Strawinski of Torrington, CT, Philip Walfield Jr. of Ipswich, Daniel Walfield and his wife Maritza of Virginia, and David Walfield and his wife Pamela of Danvers, a sister, Phyllis D’Eon and her husband Warren of Danvers, fifteen grandchildren, Aaron and Nathan Bernstein, Richard and Edwin Lear, Jessica and Emily Broughton, and Christopher, Philip, Kendra, Daniel, Joshua, Nalany, Ariannah, Madison, and Charlotte Walfield, four great-grandchildren, Alyson, Jacob, Aunika, and Capri, and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by two sisters, Norma and Marcia. As requested, funeral services are private and there are no visiting hours. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Rosewood Nursing & Rehab.
