Richard A. Goehlert

Richard A. Goehlert, 78, of Hamilton, died Wednesday, July 26, 2023 at the Lahey Medical Center in Burlington, MA with his wife and sons by his side. He was the loving husband of Patricia A. (Donovan) Goehlert, with whom he shared forty-eight years of marriage.
Born in Springfield, MA on January 21, 1945, he was the son of the late Richard and Virginia (Thomas) Goehlert. He was raised and educated in Springfield, MA and was a 1962 graduate of Springfield Technical High School. He furthered his education with a Bachelor of Science in Engineering from Northeastern University and a Master of Business from Western New England College.
Richard began his career with the Army Corps of Engineers and then worked for the Environmental Protection Agency for thirty years, retiring as a project manager. Active in the Hamilton-Wenham community, Richard served on the Hamilton Board of Health, coached his sons baseball teams, and was a past-President of the Hamilton-Wenham-Essex Babe Ruth Baseball League.
He was an avid woodworker and gardener and loved spending time at the family cottage on Cape Cod. There, he enjoyed family time kayaking, walking the beach, biking the rail trail, playing mini golf, and attending Cape Cod Baseball games. He also cherished many family vacations across the U.S.
In retirement, he enjoyed his time volunteering at the Hamilton-Wenham Library and Plum and Thatcher Island. He cherished time spent with his grandchildren, especially in his backyard and watching their numerous sports and school activities.
In addition to his wife, he leaves two sons, Matthew Goehlert and his wife Corinne of Scituate, MA and Timothy Goehlert and his wife Rhiannon of Danvers, MA, as well as his five grandchildren, Carter, Reece, Kolten, William, and Rylan, his brother, Robert Goehlert of Bloomington, IN, and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by a brother, George Goehlert.
Visiting hours are Thursday, August 3, 2023 from 11:00 a.m. - 1:00 p.m. at C.R. Lyons & Sons Funeral Directors, 28 Elm St., Danvers Square. All other services are private. Dick spent many years at EPA doing important environmental work. He provided the technical expertise and organizational assistance to clean up several Superfund sites. He will be missed.
