Born in: Salem, Massachusetts
Resided in: Rockport, Massachusetts

Richard E. Manning, 76, of Rockport, formerly of Nashua, NH, passed away peacefully on Sunday, April 12, 2026, at the Oceanside Rehabilitation and Nursing Center in Rockport.

Born in Salem on October 1, 1949, he was the son of the late John F. and Pauline (Ellis) Manning. He was raised and educated in Peabody and was a graduate of Bishop Fenwick High School, Class of 1967. As a young man, Richard enjoyed playing baseball, a pastime that reflected his lifelong love of sports.

Richard continued his education at Salem State College, where he earned his bachelor’s degree in English, later going on to receive a master’s degree in guidance. He dedicated his life to education, a calling he cherished deeply throughout his long and meaningful career.

He began teaching at St. Michael’s School in Lowell and went on to serve students and communities at Trinity High School in Manchester, Kennedy Junior High School in Peabody—where he also coached girls’ basketball—Dracut Junior High School, Seacoast Academy in Epping, NH, and within the Merrimack, NH school system. He also taught at the Jolicoeur Easterseals School before concluding his career in the Bow, NH school system, from which he retired.

A longtime resident of Nashua, Richard and his beloved wife later made their home in Rockport, where they spent the past twelve years. He was an avid sports enthusiast and had a deep appreciation for music, both of which brought him great joy throughout his life.

Above all, Richard was a devoted husband and father. He is survived by his loving wife of over 50 years, Linda M. (Bidder) Manning; his two sons, Christopher Manning of Fort Collins, Colorado, and Ryan Manning of Rockport; his sister, Bonnie Ashby of Georgetown; his brother, Buddy Manning of Peabody; and several cherished nieces and nephews.

Richard’s family is grateful for the loving care he received from the staff while at Oceanside, especially for the attention given to him by Theo in his final days.

  1. Didn’t get to meet this man but I do know one of his sons, Ryan Manning through my daughter Nikki McKinnon. After seeing a picture of Richard Manning, i saw that Ryan looks just like his father. My condolences to the Manning family for their loss.
