DANVERS - Robert J. D’Entremont, 94, passed away peacefully on June 15, 2023 after a period of declining health. He was the devoted husband of the late Ruth (Melanson) D’Entremont, with whom he shared over 60 years of marriage and created a family filled with love and blessings.
Born in Stoneham on October 1, 1928, he was the son of the late Isaiah William and Loretta (D’Eon) D’Entremont, and the stepson of the late Benjamin A. D’Entremont. He lived in both the Boston area and West Pubnico, Nova Scotia, in his youth.
Bob (or “Chippy” as he was known to many) graduated from Salem High School in 1946. He joined the United States Army on his 18th birthday and proudly served our country as a cartographer in the occupation of Japan after WWII. Following his honorable discharge, Bob graduated from the New England Aircraft School in Revere and then Boston University with a degree in Aeronautical Engineering. He worked at General Electric, MIT Lincoln Laboratory, and finally Raytheon, where he was a valued mechanical engineer for over 30 years before his retirement.
It was in Salem, at Eaton’s Apothecary, where Ruth and Bob first met. They married in 1959 and built their home in Danvers. Here, Ruth and Bob hosted many gatherings and created traditions that are now treasured memories. Oftentimes, Bob would entertain by playing the piano, a skill he taught himself. Later in life, Ruth and Bob enjoyed nearly 30 years of retirement together with ample time to spoil their grandchildren and travel throughout the United States and Europe.
Bob will be remembered as a true gentleman with a quiet demeanor, keen intellect, and endless curiosity and vitality.
He leaves behind his beloved children: William D’Entremont of Salem, Paul and Kristen D’Entremont of Georgetown, Ann and Kevin Noyes of Middleton, as well as his cherished grandchildren: Zachary and Benjamin Noyes, and Kyra, Julia, and Lindsey D’Entremont. He is also survived by his sister-in-law, Ursula Melanson of Norfolk, VA, as well as several nieces, nephews, and close family friends.
The family would like to specifically acknowledge and thank Shirley Barrowclough-Durkee, Care Dimensions, and the staff at Ledgewood Rehab for the compassionate care and support given to Bob in his final days.

As I look back over my life some of my most treasured memories are of Bob and Ruth taking places with them when I was quite young. Benson’s Animal Farm was at the top of that list as well going to the beach. I was blessed to able to visit with him on my recent visit back home. He will be missed by all and by me as he leaves a special place in my heart that will not be forgotten.
Love You Uncle Bob
