SALEM - Robert J. G. Sweeney, of Salem, passed away unexpectedly at his home in Salem on October 24, 2023. He was 61 years old. Together with his five siblings, Bobby was raised in Danvers by his loving parents Robert and Ruth Sweeney. A 1980 graduate of Danvers High School, Bobby was an accomplished and competitive diver on the Danvers YMCA Swim Team, where he developed many close friendships that endured throughout his life. Bobby’s career choices over the years reflected his varied skills and interests. The majority of his career was spent as Production Manager and V.P. of Sales and Marketing at Am-Pro Mailing List Company. Bobby was also a gifted automobile mechanic, an owner and operator of a classic automobile service business, a luxury limousine driver, and an owner and operator of a shipping and packaging business. Bobby was an intelligent and quiet man who thrived when in the company of his family and friends. He loved to laugh, was quick to smile, and was unfailingly generous when others needed his help. Over the years he served his community through many volunteer and philanthropic activities, most of which revolved around his children, to whom he was absolutely devoted. Bobby was a Salem Cub Scout Pack Leader, a Tiger Cub Coach, a Wolf Den leader, a Pack Advancement Coordinator, a Bear Den Leader and Committee Chairman, a Council Registrar, a Little League Coach, a member of the local Elks Club, and a Race Official for the Doug Flutie Foundation for Autism 5K Run for a Cure, among many other endeavors. Bobby leaves behind three children: his son Patrick Sweeney of Clarksville TN; his son Matthew Sweeney of Salem; and his daughter Kelly Nina and her husband Juan of Clarksville TN. Bobby also leaves his beloved mother, Ruth (Dynan) Sweeney of Beverly, and his five siblings: his brother Michael Sweeney and his wife Pamela of Londonderry, NH; his sister Carolyn Moscato and her husband Albert of Naples, FL; his brother Paul Sweeney and his husband Stephen Ledbetter of Chestnut Hill; his brother Howard Sweeney and his wife Rita of North Waterboro, ME; and his brother David Sweeney and his wife Rebecca of Newburyport. Bobby also leaves behind his grandson, Grayson Nina, another grandson who’s expected this coming Spring, his sister-in-law Mary Ann Sweeney, dozens of nieces, nephews, grand nieces, grand nephews, and cousins, and countless friends and others whose lives he touched. Bobby was preceded in death by his beloved father Robert Sweeney of Danvers. A Funeral Mass celebrating Bobby’s life will be held at Saint Mary of the Annunciation Church, 24 Conant Street, Danvers at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, November 2nd. Family and friends are kindly invited to attend. Visiting hours are from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday, November 1st at C.R. Lyons & Sons, Funeral Directors, 28 Elm Street, Danvers. In keeping with Bobby’s generous spirit, in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in his name to The Arc Foundation supporting people with intellectual and developmental disabilities. www.thearc.org.   1. Sending loving and condolences to the entire Sweeney clan. Bobby is fondly remembered by my family. He was a goofy, funny and energetic kid we all loved. He will be missed. May his memory give t you all solace in your grief.

  2. I’m so sorry to hear about Bobby. I have many memories of us as kids, playing in Danvers or visiting with you all on the Cape. And of watching him help Danvers beat Salem at swim meets! You have my sympathy and prayers over this deep loss.
