Ronald B. Messner, 76, died Wednesday, May 5, 2010, following a lengthy illness at the Kaplan Family Hospice House. He was the husband of the late Elaine (Surgeon) Messner. Born in New York City, he was the son of the late Blasius and Anna (Kuti) Messner. He was raised and educated in New York and then served honorably in the U.S. Air Force during both Korea and Vietnam. During his service, he was awarded the Purple Heart. A Beverly resident for over 30 years, he was a longtime employee of Eastern Airlines. He was a prankster with a great sense of humor who thrived on family and friends. He was an animal lover and great fan of Rutgers Football. He is survived by his children and their spouses, Stephen and Lillian Messner of Danvers, Ronald and Liz Messner of New Hampshire, and Barbara and Harold Criss of Texas; a brother and sister-in-law, Richard and Marianne Messner of Florida; two grandchildren, Crystal Messner and Stephen Messner, Jr.; a step-grandson, Eric Thorner of Stoneham; and a great-grandson, Johnny Iandolo. His funeral service will be Monday, May 10, 2010 at 11 a.m. in C.R. Lyons & Sons, Funeral Directors, 28 Elm St., Danvers Square. Visitation will precede the service from 9:30 to 10:45 a.m. Relatives and friends are invited. Burial will be private. lyonsfuneral.com.
