Ruth (Hanlon) Smith, 81, a longtime Danvers resident, peacefully passed away surrounded by her family on June 27, 2012 at the Kaplan Family Hospice House. She was the wife of Robert E. Smith with whom she shared 54 years of marriage. Born in Dorchester on July 20, 1930, she was the daughter of the late John and Ruth (Kelley) Hanlon. She was a graduate of Belmont High School and Northeastern University. In addition to her husband Robert, she is survived by six sons, John and his wife Susan of Newburyport, Joseph of Vail, Colorado, Charles and his wife Lisa of Hingham, Robert and his wife Tiffany of Pembroke, James and his wife Beverly of Vail, Colorado, and David of California, seven grandchildren, Amanda, Amy, Kimberly, Suzanne, Christopher, Michael and Melissa, two great grandchildren, William and Olivia, and her nephew Sean and niece Vanessa. She was predeceased by her brother Charles Hanlon. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 9AM on Saturday, June 30, 2012 in St. Mary of the Annunciation Church, 24 Conant St., Danvers. Visiting hours are Friday from 5-8PM at C.R. Lyons & Sons, Funeral Directors, 28 Elm St., Danvers. Burial is private.
