Ruth J. (Colby) Zimmermann, 72, died at her home in Danvers on Saturday, November 8, 2014. She was the loving wife of the late George S. Zimmermann. Born in Danvers, she was the daughter of the late Raymond and Jeannette (Saulnier) Colby. Raised and educated in Middleton, she was a graduate of the Essex Agricultural School. Ruth spent her life as a caregiver. She was a dedicated nurse’s aide at the former Cedar Glen Nursing Home for more than thirty-five years, and then delivered for the meals-on-wheels program through the Danvers Senior Center for several years. She was a loving mother and grandmother, and was a second mother to many of her children’s friends. She leaves her children, Stephen Zimmermann and his wife Cheryl of Salem, Norman Zimmermann and his companion Christine Ayres of Plaistow, NH, Robert Zimmermann and his wife Wendi of Epping, NH, and Theresa Belair and her husband Steven of Hillsboro, NH, her siblings, Robert Colby of TX, Wayne Colby and his wife Donna of CA, Louise Dickerson of NH, and Margaret Coito of NH, her grandchildren, Nicole, Cain, Colby, Cam, Kensley, Jessica, Curtis, Amanda, Christopher, Abby, Austin, Brandon, and Dylan, her great-granddaughter, Mellodi, and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her siblings Raymond Colby Jr. and Kathy Colby. Visiting hours are Thursday, November 13, 2014 from 4-8PM in C.R. Lyons & Sons, Funeral Directors, 28 Elm St, Danvers Square. Relatives and friends are invited. As requested, all other services are private. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Danvers People-to-People Food Pantry, P.O. Box 2076, Danvers, MA 01923.

I have sooo many wonderful memories of Ruth……weekends at the house, practically the whole neighborhood and she would make bologna and cheese sandwiches and feed the whole crew…..Junior Prom and and most adorable corsage she made herself for me and it had little bumble bees in it……helping me get my very first job as a CNA at Cedar Glenn and teaching what it meant to be a caregiver…..she was a beautiful person with the biggest heart….and though I had not seen her for many years, she remained someone I always had a deep fondness for……she will be missed….God Bless

  4. I remember eating subs from Lena’s in her kitchen; although, she would always tell me I was too skinny.

    She was a very sweet person.

  5. I’m so sorry for your loss. Ruthie will always be in my heart she always made people laugh taught all of us to live life to the fullest no matter how tough the struggles were.
