  4. I grew up one street over. I met Valerie when we were about 11 years old. Valerie was always the planner… The simplest activities often turned into a real adventures. I may have been grounded afterward, but it was always worth it. I remember Campfire Girls overnight camp…

  5. Matt & Shaun: I am sending my prayers your way and hope that you know you can count on me for anything you may need. Please stay in touch. Valerie is a special person to me and one that was courageous and love you both more than you know. It’s still so shocking to me because she never gave up and made it so far battling every step of the way. She got her dream to see Shaun graduate and that was the most special event in her life. God Bless you both and please stay in touch. Love, Cousin Holly Shorten 28 B Street Lynn, MA 01905

  6. I am so very sad to hear about Valerie. I know her because of ovarian cancer. It’s a bittersweet thing to know someone so special because of an illness. She fought so hard for so long against it. Her positive attitude and perseverance were amazing considering all that she went through. And she was always thinking of everyone else. She always helped me with collecting prizes for the NOCC raffle. And she spent so much time so lovingly making gifts for other survivors. She had such a flair; she and her team would come to the walk in teal sparkle and glitter and it always brightened everyone’s outlook. She was a kind, loving soul who will never be forgotten. To all her family and friends who supported her, please take comfort in knowing that she is no longer suffering.

  7. Val, you were one of a kind. You took an interest in every one around you. When any Union sister or brother was in need of support you were always there with ideas and empathy. Thank you for your faith and courage. I will always remember your smile and positive attitude.
