Vera F. MacDonald
October 28, 1943 ~ May 23, 2024
Vera Faith (Niciewsky) MacDonald, 80, of Danvers, passed away on May 23, 2024. She was the wife of the late James E. MacDonald.
Born on October 28, 1943, she was the daughter of the late Vasily and Julia (Patruska) Niciewsky. Vera was born in Peabody and raised and educated in Danvers. She was a graduate of Holten High School. Vera had a long career with Eastern Propane and Oil in Danversport.
Vera was married to the love of her life, Jim, for 33 years raising their small family in their home in Wenham. When Jim passed in 2001 it took Vera time to find her own path which she did with grace and strength. She continued her work with Eastern Propane, downsized to a condo in Salem, took solo trips to her favorite place, Wells Beach Maine, and spent time with family and friends. Vera loved her family and her friends who became family. Her best friends were Paul and Pamala Maguire and together they shared decades of memories.
Vera was never without a book in her hand, loved watching the Patriots with her beloved son-in-law, David, and cherished time in the kitchen with her daughter. She would also spend hours on the phone with her sisters talking and laughing about everything and nothing – something she would laugh about all the time.
Her family and friends will miss her immensely but are grateful that she is at peace after a long illness which she fought with all her might.
She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law Brenda and David Turchetta of Tiverton, RI, her stepchildren, Keith MacDonald of Vero Beach, FL, Todd and Lisa MacDonald of Culpeper, VA and Tracy and Vito Tanzella of Raymond, NH, her siblings, Dorothy Dook of Georgetown, Eleanor Shaw and her husband, David of California, KY, Ross Niciewsky and his wife Diane of Danvers and David Niciewsky of New Market, NH, her step grandchildren, Alexis and Morgan Turchetta, Rachel MacDonald and Courtney Tanzella, and many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by two step grandchildren, Tyler MacDonald and Nicole Tanzella.
Her Funeral Service will be held at 10AM on Friday, May 31, 2024, in Saint Nicholas Orthodox Church, 64 Forrester St., Salem. Burial will follow in Wenham Cemetery, Main St., Wenham. Visitation will be held from 4-7PM on Thursday, May 30, 2024, at C.R. Lyons & Sons, Funeral Directors, 28 Elm St., Danvers. Our condolences to Brenda, David , Vera’s sisters and family! Being her neighbor for all most 40 years…We had such fun! Our children grew up together. We did try to keep up when she moved but will miss her smiles and sharing recipes! She made the best strawberry pies! Lots of prayers and love to the family from Florida! Bob and Mary Lou Kosty
There are not enough words to describe our 66 years of friendship like family, all the holidays, good times and sad times. My life will not be the same without you in it. Love you!
God bless you Vera I will pray for you I worked with Vera over 40 years at Eastern Propane
Oh, my goodness, where to begin. Vera was a delight to work with. She always had a smile on her face and i loved listening to all of her stories. She had plenty of them to tell. She loved life and loved living it. She spoke often of her late husband Jim and of the light of her life, her daughter Brenda. I felt like I knew them well from our conversations. There was a huge absence felt at Eastern Propane when she retired. A beautiful light has gone out. My condolences go out to her family and friends. She will be missed.

Vera was one our neighbors in Wenham for many years and always had a smile and wave for everyone. I remember fondly the days when they both sat in their beach chairs in the garage on nice days. Our prayers to you all during this difficult time .
Hi Robin- thank for your kind words. I was just telling my husband about them sitting out front in the garage so they could keep an eye on the neighborhood! Hope you and your family are well.
It was a wonderful place to grow up for sure. Thank you for your kindness always!
She loved her stories for sure almost as much as she loved her Eastern Propane family.
