Victor U. Nelson, Jr., 82, of Danvers, died Monday evening, March 17, 2014 in the Kaplan Family Hospice House. He was the husband of Claire F. (Cherbuy) (Griffin) Nelson, with whom he shared more than forty-five years of marriage. Born in Beverly on Sept. 21, 1931, he was the son of the late Victor and Rose (Drinkwater) Nelson. He was raised and educated in Salem and was a longtime Danvers resident. He served honorably in the U.S. Navy during the Korean War. Mr. Nelson was employed as an electrician with I.B.E.W. Local 103 in Dorchester until the time of his retirement. He was a member of the Polish Club in Danvers, the Franco-American Club in Beverly, and the American Legion in Middleton. In addition to his wife, he leaves his children, David Nelson of NH, Cindy Cone of TX, Judith (Griffin) White and her husband Daniel of West Barnstable, Robin (Griffin) Helling of Ayer, Kathleen (Griffin) Power and her husband Kevin of Ipswich, and Shawn Griffin and his wife Debra (Supino) of FL, two sisters, Nancy Walor and Helen Armstrong, 10 grandchildren, 4 great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews. His Funeral Service will be Friday, March 21, 2014 at 10AM in C.R. Lyons & Sons, Funeral Directors, 28 Elm St., Danvers Square. Relatives and friends are invited. Visiting hours are Thursday from 4-7PM in the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Operation Troop Support, 16 Trinity St., Danvers, MA 01923.
