Walter F. Sorenson, 82, passed away on July 17, 2014 in Brigham Manor Nursing and Rehabilitation in Newburyport. Born on September 9, 1931 in Salem, he was raised and educated in Salem. Walter had resided in the North Shore area for much of his life. He served with the Mass. National Guard. He had been employed as an electronics technician with Metcom in Salem and UNEX Laboratories in Danvers for many years. He also worked for Sorenson Electric for many years as a journeyman electrician. Walter had served as an auxiliary police officer in Beverly and Danvers. He was an amateur photographer and a country dance instructor. He is survived by his children, Patricia Sorenson and her wife Sharon Durette of Georgetown, Kathy Sorenson-Orechia and her husband Walter Orechia Jr. of Peabody, Walter Sorenson Jr. and his wife Sarah Sorenson of Groveland and John Sorenson and his wife Gail Sorenson of Georgetown, his grandchildren, Gabriella, Gregory, Emma, James and Mary Grace Sorenson, his former wife Gloria (Mascioli) Sorenson, his sister-in-law, Theresa Sorenson of ME. He was predeceased by his brothers, John, William “Butch”, Christian “Sonny”, and James Sorenson and his sisters, Eleanor and Dorothy. Walter’s funeral services are private. Expressions of sympathy may be made in his name to the American Cancer Society, 30 Speen St., Framingham, MA, 01701.
