Wilbert H. Walfield

wilbert walfield
Wilbert H. “Will” Walfield, Jr., 86, died peacefully at his home in Danvers on Friday, October 14, 2022. He was the loving husband of the late Anne M. (Maguire) Walfield, with whom he shared fifty-five inseparable years of marriage. Born in Lynn on Feb. 11, 1936, he was the son of the late Wilbert and Alice (Young) Walfield, Sr. Raised in Lynn, he was a graduate of the Essex Agricultural School. He was a Danvers resident for over sixty years. Will worked for many years at Thomson’s Nursery in Danvers before becoming a co-owner of Corliss Brothers Garden Center and Nursery in 1983. Will loved his work there; the camaraderie of colleagues and customers, the time outdoors, and mostly the gift of working alongside his family. It gave him endless joy and energy that carried him through his final days. Just a few short weeks ago, he was still able to get to work and operate a dump truck and front-end loader in the yard at the garden center. The only thing more precious than work to Will was his family. He loved trips to Cape Cod and Southern Maine with his beloved wife and cherished every moment with his grandchildren. Being in their lives was everything to him, and he never missed a school event or game to be there for each of them. He leaves two sons and daughters-in-law, Steven and Mary Walfield of Danvers and Matthew and Carolyn Walfield of Essex, six grandchildren, Annie Cundiff and her husband Michael, William Walfield and his wife Meghan, and Brendan, Thomas, Kathleen, and Lilly Walfield, two great-grandchildren, Henry and Molly Cundiff, and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his brothers, Alden, Vernon, and Dana Walfield. Will’s Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Thursday, Oct. 20, 2022 at 10AM in Saint Richard Church, 90 Forest St., Danvers. Burial will follow in Walnut Grove Cemetery, Sylvan St., Danvers. Relatives and friends are invited. Visiting hours are Wednesday from 4-7PM in C.R. Lyons & Sons Funeral Directors, 28 Elm St., Danvers Square. In lieu of flowers, donations in Will’s memory may be made to the Joslin Diabetes Center, 1 Joslin Pl., Boston, 02215. Memories Timeline

Guestbook

  1. Wally and Matty – I was so very sorry to hear about your Dad. We go back many years ( Thomson’s) and he was a connection to my early beginnings in the landscape industry. He always had a smile and was ready for a little conversation. I especially loved his stories about Dan Foley.

Your video tribute to him was lovely. I am going to miss seeing him at the yard. Please extend my sympathies to your family.
