William R. Nicholas, M.D., 92, died Friday, October 2, 2026. He was the husband of the late Fabienne St. Pierre, who predeceased him in 2025.

Born in Brooklyn, New York, on May 4, 1934, he was the son of the late William and Ludmilla “Mary” (Protivansky) Nicholas. He was raised and educated in Brooklyn and graduated from Bay Ridge High School. He continued his education at Brooklyn College and attended medical school at SUNY Downstate Medical Center.

Dr. Nicholas served honorably in the United States Navy, proudly attaining the rank of commander and serving as a flight surgeon. After relocating to Massachusetts, he practiced ear, nose, and throat medicine at Chelsea Naval Hospital, Hunt Memorial Hospital, and Beverly Hospital. A longtime resident of Danvers, he also made his home in Boxford.

An avid scuba diver, Dr. Nicholas also loved skiing and photography. His interests in nature and astronomy reflected his curiosity about the world around him and the skies above.

He had much affection for Cape Cod, particularly Wellfleet, where he had a summer home for many years.

He leaves five children, Jeffrey Nicholas and his wife Kerry Rourke of Salem, Amy Guertin and her husband Ray of Rowley, Joel Nicholas and his wife Rachel of Montgomery, Jeremy Nicholas and his wife Eva of Haverhill, and Mark Nicholas and his wife Erica of Georgetown; eleven grandchildren, Owen, Chloe, Joshua, Jarrod, Evelyn, Cassidy, Cameron, Emerson, Quinn, Presley, and McKinley; a great-grandson, Nathanael; and three nieces, Cynthia, Theresa, and Maria. In addition to his wife and parents, he was predeceased by his sister, Loretta Gallo, and his beloved granddaughter, Rebecca Claire.

His funeral service will be held Thursday, October 8, 2026, at 10 a.m. in C.R. Lyons & Sons Funeral Directors, 28 Elm Street, Danvers Square. Burial will follow in Annunciation Cemetery, Danvers. Relatives and friends are invited.  Visiting hours will be held in the funeral home on Wednesday, October 7, from 4 to 7 p.m.  In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Gentiva Hospice, 500 Cummings Center, Suite 1150, Beverly, MA 01915.
