Walter K. Milano

Walter K. “Brother” Milano, 74, of Danvers, died Wednesday, January 14, 2015 at his home following a brief illness. He was the loving husband of Sally M. (Herrick) Milano, with whom he shared 49 years of marriage.
Born in Boston on July 9, 1940, he was the son of the late Michael and Helen (Driscoll) Milano. He was raised and educated in Winthrop and was a graduate of Winthrop High School, where he was a three-letterman and was later inducted into the Winthrop High School Hall of Fame for his talent on the basketball court. He served honorably in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War.
Walter was employed with New England Telephone for thirty-six years.
A communicant of Saint Mary of the Annunciation Church, he was active in cub scouts and little league with his children. He had been a member of the Danvers Municipal Light Board and a longtime member of the Danvers Finance Committee. He was also a member of the Winthrop Knights of Columbus and the Telephone Pioneers.
In addition to his wife, he leaves his children, Wendy Wawrzyniak and her husband Robert of Ohio, Jeffrey Milano and his wife Kathleen of Ipswich, and Melissa Milano of Charlestown, nine grandchildren, Emily, Olivia, Samuel, Hailey, Ray, Leann, and Nicholas Wawrzyniak and Heather and Brian Milano, two brothers, Donald Milano of Florida and Richard Milano of Winthrop, and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his siblings Michael Milano and Margaret Cash.
His Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Monday, January 19, 2015 at 9AM in Saint Mary of the Annunciation Church, 24 Conant St., Danvers. Burial will follow in Annunciation Cemetery, Danvers. Relatives and friends are invited. Visiting hours are Sunday from 3-7PM in C.R. Lyons & Sons, Funeral Directors, 28 Elm St., Danvers Square. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Walter’s name to either Care Dimensions, 75 Sylvan St., Danvers, MA 01923 or the Mass General Cancer Center, Endicott St., Danvers, MA 01923.
